Fall Harvest Festival Report
A good time was had by all at City Farm SLO’s Fall Harvest Festival on October 8.
The 250 people of all ages who came and went during the beautiful afternoon enjoyed exploring the 18 acre site managed by Central Coast Grown, which includes the new Pergola building, the School Garden planted and maintained by students at Pacific Beach High School and the PREPARE program, Our Global Family Garden featuring food crops from the four continents, and the acreage sublet by four organic farm operations.
Visitors took part in many activities, including yoga led by Terry Hooker, dancing to the music of the Albert Jr. Band, enjoying dishes cooked with produce grown on the farm and prepared by Chef Jarrod Cerniglia, the SLO Solar Cookers and Julia’s Juices, learning about vermiculture from Janine Rands, the SLO Seed Exchange from Elizabeth Johnson, and the FARM class from three students at Pacific Beach High School, bouncing on hayrides through the property and arriving at Javier Magana’s thriving row crop operation and taking home fresh-picked vegetables in their Central Coast Grown shopping bags.
Many expressed interest in learning more about the City Farm operation and in the return of this annual event.
